Day 6: Baking Day
Today, Kate, Julia, and one of Julia’s neighbor friends made cupcakes. Before they could apply frosting, Kate had the girls fan the cupcakes with cookie sheets. The cookbook they used is one Julia got for Christmas, called The Complete Baking Book for Young Chefs, by America’s Test Kitchen. I haven’t had one yet but I heard they turned out awesome and the girls had a blast!
Also, today I went noticing…and I noticed that the neighborhood next to ours created a painted rock garden. Though I walk in that park three or four times a week it’s entirely possible the painted rock garden has been there a while and I just haven’t seen it before. (One reason for my daily photo exercise this year — to pay attention.) A number of years ago I heard that this neighborhood’s neighborhood association got upset with one of the residents for doing rock stacking. More recently I’ve heard really good things about the neighborhood association. Creating a painted rock garden does invite a little bit of chaos into your park, but also lots of opportunities for creativity, neighborliness, and delight. Good for them.
