A farmer I know owned a dog that killed one of the farmer’s chickens. So what the farmer did was tie that dead hen around the dog’s neck and let it rot there.
Approximately 80% of white evangelicals are voting tonight for a guy who has said and done heinous things. Whether he wins or loses, we have every right to expect that non-white and non-evangelical Americans will hang Trump’s dead chicken of a candidacy around our neck for years to come. In fact, I want them to. We need to learn our lesson.
But the farmer’s dog, like all dogs, loved rotten flesh. He just rolled around with that dead chicken and had a grand old time. Similarly, as long as white evangelicals remain willing to compromise their most basic values and calling in the name of political influence, we’re going to be fine rolling around with dead chickens.
The problem isn’t the chickens, it’s the the dog.
